Do Your Part to Conserve Energy! Sign up for your FREE Kit Today!

Earlier this school year our students attended a theatrical learning experience called Space Station Conservation. The program was sponsored by the National Theatre for Children and Duke Energy. During the program students learned ways they can conserve energy at home by using using aerators, decreasing water heater temperature, using energy efficient light bulbs, and much much more!

So far Bon Air Elementary School has saved 11092 kilowatt hours of energy by signing up for 47 FREE Energy Kits. Our goal is to request 75 kits (or more!) by May 31st so we can be entered into a grand prize drawing for $10,000! But most importantly we want to do our part to help conserve energy and resources for the planet.. Help us.....and the environment out!

Introducing our newest robot...Dash!

Introducing Dash by Wonder Workshop!

Some fourth graders got the opportunity to unbox our new Dash robot today and start experimenting with the many things he can do.

Dash is a programmable robot who can move, dance, turn around, change color and make noises based on the coding commands you give him. The students used the Blockly app to program Dash in a variety of challenges. We also used the GO! app to drive Dash around the building and sneak up on our secretaries and principals.

Education Fair

Join us March 8th or 16th for our school Open Houses!
The 2016 Education Fair was a great success! Thank you to the parents, students, and community members who visited our table and inquired more about our school. Check out pictures from the event below!
All classrooms are equipped with Interactive Boards for students to manipulate while they are practicing new skills. Use of interactive boards have been found to increase student achievement by 16%. More information on this study can be found here
Our 3D Printer is always working down at the Makerspace. Here a family watches at it makes the final touches on a translucent Octopus design. This year our students have learned more about height, width and length while designing pencil holders using our 3D Printing technologies.
Our Makerspace is a place for problem solving, creation, tinkering and critical thinking. Students learn coding, electrical circuit design, 3D printing software, digital media creation, and much more in our Makerspace!

Want to learn beginning coding? Start by using color patterns to control Ozobot robots. Even our Kindergartners can code using these tiny robots.

Building electrical circuits using Snap Circuits is great critical thinking practice.

Change Challenge

February is National Heart Health Month.  We are talking about healthy heart habits all month long in Physical Education class!  Talk to your kids about what they have learned so far!  We are also doing a fundraiser for the American Heart Association called the Change Challenge.  Students can bring in their spare change (or dollar bills!) to donate to the American Heart Association.  We are going to see which Grade Level can raise the most money during the month of February!  Students are reminded to check with their parents or guardians before bringing in any money.  So check under those couch cushions and between the seats of your car, and donate that change to help eliminate heart disease in your child’s lifetime!
