Visit by Olympic Gold Medal Winner Greg Bell

Former Olympian and gold medalist, Greg Bell, visited Bon Air and shared his story with our students. Bell was an athlete in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. He won his gold medal with a 7.83 long jump length during the track and field event. Mr. Bell shared his story with our students and let us see his gold medal and plaque from the Games. Our students posted questions online prior to Mr. Bell's visit. He showed pictures of his track and field career and measured out his gold-medal winning jump on the gym floor for the students to visualize.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. The students had a great time celebrating the day. Our middle school Student Council sold cans of Crush soda during lunch to raise money for their award field trip to an Indianapolis Indians game. Our elementary students did a variety of activities throughout the day.

Fourth graders in Mrs. Sale's class wrote in each other's compliment books. The students passed the books around to each other and wrote something nice about each of their classmates inside the book. Once the books returned to its original owner the students laughed and smiled as they read the messages they had received.

Fifth graders watched a clip online how to make an origami envelope. They used giant sized paper to create an envelope to carry all their goodies home.

Celebrating 100 Days of School

We finally made it through the blizzard and snow to our 100TH SCHOOL DAY! Kindergarten students celebrated the day with many activities. Students used team working skills to create a cupcake poster using 100 paper sprinkles. Each child was in charge of a certain color and counting out an exact number of sprinkles to total 100.
Students also stamped and stickered out exactly 100 spaces on their hundred's chart before they listened to a story.

Last, students created a "goodie bag" of 100 assorted crackers, candies, and snacks to take home with them for the weekend.

Pedometers in Physical Education Classs

At the Tech Academy we integrate technology everywhere, including our specials classes. Mrs. Madden recently introduced pedometers to her elementary students during PE time. Our younger students attached the devices to their waistbands and walked for an allotted period of time to track their steps. (pictures below). The older students used the pedometer to track their steps in various workout stations. After each session they added their step count to an Excel spreadsheet to compare their progress over time. We can't wait to see the results after several classes have tracked their steps!
